I have a 12 year old male dachshund who suddenly collapsed and was lost control of his bowels and bladder.... he was limp for about an hour then began to move about. He was hospitalized overnight, tested for heart conditions, which none were found and released. Has anyone ever had this happen to their dog before? Thanks for the help.
What else did they test for? Did he tremor at all as he was falling or after he fell? Has he been eating normally up till then? Anything else going on with him like bowels etc normal? Any chance his sugar could have been low?
Thank you both for answering.... he basically just lay still for about an hour, through the entire car ride to the vet hospital (which is very unusual).... they did all sorts of blood work, ekg, heart ultrasound and didn't find anything. he did have dental surgery at another vet the week before, of which he has a recheck today, so hopefully he can help shed light on it. They were going to do more testing, but i just couldn't afford anymore. He has been quite the 'money pit' the last year, two abscessed teeth, ruptured disk in his back which was repaired....since the episode last week, his legs in the back are a bit weaker, but he still tries to run around the yard with our other two doxies..... i'll keep you posted, and again, thanks.
I have a Pug, who a couple of times a year has a similar attack, in addition mine wobbles first then collapses, usually loses bladder and bowel control and remains rigid. He has Canine Cramping Syndrome.
He is given 10mg of Valium (rectal) and recovers within 10 minutes.
IF it happens again, have a good look at what happens.
