having soft and normal stool? What could it be?

Hi everyone, I need help! Our new doggy is pooing both soft and normal,(normal in morng.soft in aftern.) He started eating Natures Recipe when we adopted him (not sure what he was eating before) plus treats. I have a feeling the treats are the problem, so I stopped giving him the "Filet Mignon, Milk Bone" (2 days ago)changed to a diff. brand. He also goes to the dog park almost everyday & runs and plays for 2 hr. Any sugg.? My husband wants to switch his feed. to 1 day (instd of 2) to monitor pooing,cause he has gone inside the house in the midd.of night.

Well I can tell you about those treats...they almost killed my dog from diarrhea. I was rushing around and happened to be in Wal-Mart (I know, I know...bad mommy) but I grabbed a bag of them and brought them home and all of my dogs got sick and one almost died!

I only use either organ meat or Bil-Jac chicken liver treats for rewards with my dogs.

I feed twice daily, once in the morning and once in the evening. Treats usually during training and practice and then before bedtime.

Honestly, it took me almost a week to get them all back to "normal" with their pooping after feeding that garbage.

Yes, I agree it is more than likely the treats. I like to use freeze dried liver treats for training. Dogs love them, and they are easy on the tummy. For chew bones, I use Bully sticks, and dried beef tendons. They are all natural, and keeps them pretty busy for a while.
Animals, what animals? My children just have alot of hair!

I don't use any soft treats, unless I have made them. Walmart does have some wonderful hard biscuits that are all natural. made her in the USA also. they are just called natural biscuits, in a brown and red bag. they also have a pic of a mixed terrier on the front. I really like them, and my dogs love them. they get one every night at bedtime.

Thanks so much for responding to my question. I just called the Vet.to ask her too, cause this morning he actually went preety normal but at the end of the Poop he had a red spot (like blood)so it concerns me a little. He's very active and happy otherwise. He's eating good too, specially at night.

Glad he seems to be doing better. The red spot could have been a little blood but if he has suffered from diarrhea for several days, his bowel tract could be a little inflammed. Good thing you called the vet and hope all works out.

update on Dash: took him to Vet. took stool sample, the Vet. found he had elevated bacteria count,no parasites thank God! she said sometimes the food or treats causes irritation in the dog's bowel if he has an allergy. The Vet.prescribed antibiotics for a week and gave me a prescribed can food for the week to give him exclusively for the first 3 days and start 1/2 & 1/2 of the food called I.D. and his regular dry food. then end with only his food no treats for the week. that started yesterday, today he had normal stool. I wonder if that food had a medicine to make him go harder? Anyway I tend to think it was the treats, but we'll find out when he starts with his food again. Oh and he gain 1 pound good sign!
