Today I got the worst news ever, I possibly have to put my dog down. I need alittle adivse on what to do! In the past 6 months I have noticed alot of personality changes wit my German Shepherd he ill be nine this aug 12. he has lived a very long live. health wise he is ok, not falling apart but has his problems.but my concern is his mental health he has changed in some many ways with the little things. and you know what im talking about with being a dog lover all the small things you know about your dog. he is normally very friendly, and I know there are some changes that happen with age. but I have noticed big changes like him growling at my dad and he has lived with he man his whole life. him and my dad where out side hang out buddies and now we even worry about when he is out side by him self and he is on a tie out. the next problem that is out on the table is we are moving, mind you not far from where was are at now, but me and my mom are worried about him not adapting to the move very well... and the other problem at hand is I dont know If Im ready to let him go...but I know at the same time I got to do what is best for the dog. If any one can give me alittle advise im not looking for some one to tell me what to do, I just need to knwo I have support of putting the dog down and its not mean to do to the dog, bc if i have people emailing me to give him a change I will do my damest to make sure he comes with us, Thank you Rachel
I wouldn't worry too much about the move, most dogs do OK if their family is there with them. A lot of dogs have attitude changes when they get older. He could have arthritis or some other aging problem causing him to be a little uncomfortable, and grumpy. At his age and his breed, I would just make him as comfortable as possible and let him be. Don't make him do much if he doesn't want to. Talk to your vet, maybe there's an underlying reason (like joint pain) for his personality changes, and there may be an easy way to ease it.
Thank you for your thougths , only down fall we figured out the problem today he has been having mini strokes and today was the final one. he has past on now as of 6:30 tongiht They say this breed never bows out gracful
My thoughts are with you. He is in a happier place, and will be waiting for you at the rainbow bridge. It is hard to let them go, but in the end, hopefully the happy memories of a fun filled life will keep you laughing.
I am so sorry to hear about your dog. My thoughts and prayers are with you...I know it's never easy losing a loved pet. He is no longer suffering. He'll be waiting at rainbow bridge...if you've never read it here it is; it always makes me feel better after losing a beloved pet.
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
