My daughter does sports, as well as goes to the gym. Back in March, she dropped a weight from shoulder height onto the inside of her right leg, hitting above the ankle. The pain didn't start for a few weeks. There was no bruising, and not a lot of swelling. Now, last week, she started playing soccer again for 3 hours a day plus going to the gym, and it started hurting again. What do I do? Do I call the doctor or just let it heal?
Let what heal? This has been 5 months since the injury took place. She needs to be seen by an orthopaedic.
The thing about scrapes and bruises is that we moms can see those thing and we can see the extent of the damage and we can monitor the healing process when we use antibiotic creams and band aids. However, when something goes on INTERNALLY, we need to rely on the medical experts and machines to tell us what is going on. No bruising and minimal swelling doesn't mean anything. She should have still been taken to the doctor for him to at least check it and document everything that happened while it was still fresh. He could have taken x-rays or done an MRI at that point and now since it has been 5-6 months since the injury, he would have been able to take more x-rays to compare to the first ones. Although, if there was in fact an injury and she had seen the doc to begin with, she may not have needed another visit.
I would take her straight to the doctor if it were me.
