My four-year old corgi has been suffering with his rear legs slipping out. Based on when it started (after a period of intense exercise) I really believe (pray) it's a spine/disc problem and not something less treatable like DM or a tumor.
I have a question for anyone who has had a dog with disc issues, especially long-bodied (chondrodystrophoid) dogs:
When your dog had a disc problem that resulted in limping or rear-leg weakness, did he/she also show clear signs of back pain? Or did the lameness show up with no real indication of back pain?
For my little guy, when I palpate along his spine I sometimes get a reaction from him at the thoracic-lumbar interface -- but sometimes he doesn't react at all. I can't tell if his reaction is from me just bothering him. He is on gluclosamine/MSM (non-steroid anti-inflammatory). Maybe that is masking it?
I'm trying to figure out if IVDD (calcification, for example) always comes with definite back pain, or if it can be there with no signal of back pain.
If you saw my other post you know I'm very worried about my dog, we have an MRI scheduled for Monday...doing some research like this to find if others have had similar experience helps keep me sane.
