I have a loving, beautiful 11 year old female Akita. She has had some health problems off and on ever since we rescued her at 3 months old, such as bloat surgery, hot spots and arthritics. She has now developed constant eye infections, fur loss and protein loss in her urine, occasional vomiting and diarrhea as well as some weight loss. The vet wants to try lots of medication but she has no real answers and my baby has a low tolerance to most meds. If anyone could help I would be eternally grateful. Thank You.
Am sorry to hear this Akitas can suffer a hell of a lot with all kinds of complecations via their diet Akitas from japan who are fed on a diet of fish rice and vegataion mainly sea weed suffer almost no ill effects dry dog food can cause bloat if fed too much and gastric problems and tin dog food mainly beef can give them allegic reactions which can make them very sencitive to most medications atibiotics etc try the dog on a fresh diet potatos cabbage boiled together with pork they will even tolerate pork if you boil it include fish you can still feed them dry food but in small portions add cabbage and potatos to it. as for the atheritis and eye infection your dog respond better to the medication after the dogs been on the diet for a while. I hope your dog gets better Paddy
Hi, you might want to ask for a geriatric blood panel and an UA. Your dog, like mine, is elderly. That means more things will go wrong with organs. You might want to switch to a vet that is familiar with elderly dog care. Dont wait, get some tests done. Best of luck to you and your pup.
