So my grandmother's boss was dumping their 8 gallon aquarium and upgrading to a 15 gallon. He said they hadn't used it in the past year and it was just taking up space, so needless to say I laid claims on it.
So what are some good fish suggestions? I have done larger aquariums in the past but none recently. I also know nothing about fish species really and who gets along with who. I want to have a small variety for the aquarium. So if anyone knows any interesting small tank set ups I'd love to hear them (with pictures of the suggested fish if possible please).
I'm not making any decisions soon, I want to set the tank up and leave it running for several days. I heard you should do this before putting any fish in the tank. Oh, and it's going to be a freshwater tank set up and it doesn't have a heater so it needs to be fish that don't require heating.
i have an 8 gallon set-up for a friend of mine who knows very little if anything about fish keeping. she saw a beautiful betas - blue!!! - and had to have it. she didn't want it to get lonely so i sent some of my young albino bristle nose pleco - 2 - 2 apple snails and some wild guppies. a total of about 8 small fish. general rule is 1 inch per gallon. anyway these are all fine with room temp., won't grow very big(pleco only gets to 3 inches) and can hold their own to the beta. the wild guppies don't have fancy fins so are not enemies to the beta. don't forget that any live plant will greatly increase your occupy-able space. looks good too. she has even been able to grow out an angel or 2 of mine then she trades them in for more small ones. i hope this helps. most room temps. are in the 70's with the light on. extra heat.
