My long haired Chihuahua will be 2 in Sept. My main problem is his aggressiveness. He will not get in the car to go to the vet. I can't pick him up to put him in because he will growl and bite. He won't let me cut his nails, again he attacks. He won't let you pick him up unless he wants you to. He will attack if you try to take something from him that he shouldn't have.
He barks when someone comes to the door and will bark for at least a half hour after they leave.
He barks when a stranger comes into the house until he is sure they won't bother him.
I am thinking the only thing to do is have a trainer come into the house since I can't get him anywhere.
I haven't dealt with an aggressive dog before today, my dog tried to nip at the vet today and they used a muzzle. Maybe you could try getting one and using it when you have to take your dog to the vet or clip his nails or something, if he would let you get it on. The trainer coming to your house sounds like a good idea to try. Good luck figuring out what to do.
Yes, you do need a trainer. The little one is in charge of the pack and you need to start becoming the leader and it will take a lot of time and patience and repetition. Even though a chihuahua is tiny and cute, they are still first and formost a dog. If you do not establish yourself as the top dog, any dog will get out of control. A lower dog woud never think of putting their teeth on the boss, so just the fact that the dog bites you says that you are not respected as a leader. Try this website
