Just wondering which brand of cat food is actually the best-I don't mean from the vets as I cannot afford their brand. The ages are 11,7,6 year old short hairs and two new 14 week old siamese kittens. I have been giving the adult cats (light) nutrience from pet value but they really don't have a shiny coat anymore and they could still lose a pound or two. The kittens are on nutrience but the kitten brand. Any thoughts on the matter would be appreciated
I feed my cats Innova Evo, and they are in excellent shape. If you find it a little costly, go wth a food containing the most meat, and least grain possible, and of course none of the big no-nos like BHA, BHT, ethoxyquin and animal digest. There are some other excellent brands like California Naturals, Mother Nature, Healthwise.....I find a cheap and easy supplement/treat for my cats is canned water packed tuna. (low sodium) You can get it for less than the price of a lot of crappy wet cat foods.Good luck!
Actually what vets sell is essentially very expensive garbage. It is usually Science Diet which is full of grains and meat-by-products. I would never feed that stuff. I have tried the Innova EVO mentioned by PEN2 and it is a wonderful product and they liked the taste but it was a little too rich for my Persians tummies and doesn't have enough fiber. Long haired cats need 5% or more or they can get tons of hairballs. I am currently feeding Wellness Indoor which I have to blend with Wellness kitten because my little one is only 16 weeks. The main thing you want to look for in any food is meat or fish as the main ingredient, no corn, wheat, soy, or meat-by-products and limited other grains. There are several good brands that are not ridiculously expensive; Innova, Wellness, Blue Buffalo are just a few.
