My 8 year old Shar Pei has recently begun having seizures, they usually occur between 11:30pm and 1:30 am.. He may have them for 2-3 days in a row then not have another one for 3-4 weeks.. He "wakes" up a little disoriented but his demeanor is fine... He paces for about 15 minutes and then goes back to sleep.
My 9 year old sharpei had a seizure back in April, and she exhibited temporary blindness and disorientation for five minutes. We were in the process of trying to get her to lose weight as in her later years she has become obsessive compulsive with food in any bowl, and especially after she became dominant in the household, where as before she would only eat when hungry, and was a grazer. I did alot of research and found that alot of seizures are caused by food colorings or BHT/BHA preservatives chemicals that preserve some dog foods. So, we immediately switched to Authority from Petsmart, as she didn't like the highend dog food that were free of colorings and BHT/BHA. And, luckily she hasn't had a seizure since. And, my Sharpei has never had food allergies of any sort before. I wanted to rule out the food issue first before taking her into the vet to have all kinds of comprehensive tests run and not to mention the massive vet bill for all the diagnostics. I did take her into the vet for her normal checkup and blood work and everything was fine.
