I have a 5 1/2 month old boxer, weighing in at 53lbs. His testicles haven't dropped yet, during the examination my vet feels around, and said at one appointment, that he could feel them, and then at the next appointment, he said he couldn't feel them. Then he proceeded to tell me that if they don't drop then he definately has to be neutered, and that if they open him up where they should be, and they are not there, then theres a good chance they may have to make 3 incisions to find them. Now, my question is how long should I wait for his testicles to drop? Also, he ransacked my garden the other day, and destroyed all of my husbands chili peppers, I found the whole root with the peppers still attached by the house, but my husband said that yesterday he puked up 2 chili peppers, and last night, I was petting him, and his stomach was making rumbling/ gassy sounds. My neighbour gave me pumpkin powder to try, and we syringe fed it to him, how many times a day is okay for me to give this to him? Sorry my post is so long, any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thank you
I have always be told that if they are not down by 6monts old, they are not comming down. My Aussie boy was around 5months when his finally come down. Personally if they are not down and inplace by 7months, I would go ahead and neuter him.
As far as the chiles are concerned, I haven't a clue. I would say if he is still throwing up, have him checked out by a vet.
At any rate some depends on breed/size, but in general if not down by 10-12 minths, time to neuter.
I know of many dogs who drooped after 6 months. One in particular was a Standard Poodle. At 9 months he was disqualified at a show for having only one descended testicle. At 12 months he was disqualified for having 3! (to the non show people, this means the crooked handler had a testicular implants assuming the teste was not dropping. After the implant...the teste did drop) ooops.
Thanks guys. I phoned the vet this afternoon, and the lady that answered the phone said unless he was lethargic, then they don't need to see him. I explained to her that I had given him pumpkin powder, and she had no idea of the product's use. I gave him pumpkin powder to try and help settle his stomach...it sounded like it was very, very gassy. It did seem to help, but alas, there has been no bowel movement today..I'm gonna keep checking tonight...updated... I went out and saw there was definately a bowel movement, soft looking.
I did do some looking up on the internet re; the dropping of his testicles, and it definately seems to differ...one person said that it was over a year, others 6-9 months.. I just don't want him full of scars. I will eventually get him neutered, but would prefer to have them both drop, beforehand.
As far as his testicals I'd give it till 9 months after that after that there stands a chance of them twisting amd causing him severe pain. and for the chili peppers ~ well, when ever one of my dogs got into something they should have unless I kinew it was deadly I withheld food for 12 hours and fed them boiled hanbuger and rice for 24 hours.
If people were more like animals the world would be a better place...
