Can puppies that young bloat easily? I have Great Dane pups and it seems a few of them..even hours after eating, their stomachs will look big and bloated. They don't look like they feel good either. We are feeding them 3 times a day with a mixture of 2nd Step Milk replacement and dry puppy food all blended..as well as a few times from the mom. Can it cause serious problems for them to be bloated like that? I don't think I'm feeding them too much. Please help!
Have you wormed the dam,and have you wormed the pups at 2 and 4 weeks? The bloating may have nothing to do with the food. If they are 4 weeks old, and they are getting 3 meals a day, since their teeth are quite sharp now,I would not be blendng the dry food, but soaking it with warm water, and milk replacer, or goats milk if you can get it. They really are big enough to start chewing a chunkier mixture. What brand of puppy food are you feeding? 3-4 feedings per day is a good idea, but puppy food may not necessarily the way to go, especially if it has a very high protein content.
Yes, usually by 5 weeks they are able to crunch on the dry. Since they havent done this yet, I would just warm the milk, etc a tad and pour some over the dry kibble. As they show they are doing well eating it you can add less and less liquid until they are on straight dry.
Great Dane puppies get their tummys real full. It is normal! When they grow, they will look short, but they are growing long. When they look skinny, they will grow tall. You got to know, they are growing everyday. I free feed(they will not eat too much). They will grow for two years. You will see them grow daily. They will be fine, you are feeding them properly.
