Hi! I'm looking for some advice I have a 2 year old Jack Russell named Shiloh she is 10 lbs and for the last couple of hours she has been sneezing for 5-10 seconds each sneeze attack. Her body feels warm and she is somewhat calmer than normal. I have given her 1/4 of a benedryl pill to help with the sneezing but I was wondering if she might have a cold? She had to be bathed yesterday as she rolled in some poop and stunk to high heaven so I bathed her around 5:30pm in the evening I noticed she was shivering after her bath so I tried to blow dry her to dry her faster but she doesn't like it too much. Without thinking I took her for a walk an hour after her bath and it was crisp outside (we live in Toronto, ON) it wasn't cold but I wore a sweater, so I'm wondering if she got a cold from being outside after her bath?
I feel horrible I'm worried I caused her to be sick. Any advice would help, she sneezes very hard each time she has an attack and I feel so bad for her. I looked up her nose with a flash light but couldn't see anything that might be stuck or lodged inside.
Sure has been a cooler than normal summer in Toronto. I somehow doubt the weather, or you, caused a cold. I would suspect somehow an irritant got into her nose. Could even have been a product used to bathe her. If she is still having reactions or develops other symptoms I am sure you will contact your vet. We have two emerg clinics that are open 24 hours and I even have a flyer for "Mobile Vet" for house calls if you are carless. How's she now? I know how concerned one gets at any signs of illness or distress with our "pups". I find people on this site are tremendously knowledgable and helpful. I don't offer too much in writing but certainly have learned a lot from reading these postings whenever I have time to get on line.
He may well have a cold and don't beat yourself up for the bath... My bitch got a rather nasty cold 2 days after having a litter... Running, stopped up nose with discharge the whole ball of wax. She seemed to take alot of comfort with her pups. I used a humidifier and kept her comfy. She was fine and so were her pups. You can give a 10 pound dog 1 benadryl they require a higher dose than people.. it will make him sleepy, but with a JRT that might be a refreshing change! He should be fine...And use a nice vigorus towel rub after a bath, and squeeze dry his feet to remove excess water, keep indoors til he's dry! lol in Texas we don't have that cold weather thing too much!
