HELP!! My english bulldog has a fowl odor coming off her. We have tried changing to a natural dog food that has no additives other than fish. We bought many different dog foods and nothing seems to help. She only got worse. Vet thought maybe her anal glands needed extracted but there were none to distract. We bath her often and it has been so bad it is unbearable to even have her in a room with us. It has caused our home to stink. She is a rescue pet and don't want to get rid of her because we can't seem to find a solution to her smell. She is even scratching, biting and licking causing a sore now on her foot. She is 6 yrs old. Release of the odor gets worse when she is panting, scratching and chewing on herself. PLEASE HELP MY POOR OLD STASHA.
Definitely sounds like a food allergy to me. Has the vet done a skin scraping to test what she is allergic to?
What foods have you tried? You may also want to ask the vet what her Benedryl dosage would be and consider giving her some a couple times a day, wont help the smell, will help her being miserable from itching.
Not a permanent solution, but will provide some relief until the actual allergen can be determined.
Check her teeth. The scratching could be any number of things. Allergies, fleas(which are terrible in Kentucky this year) or a secondary infection due to the scratching from the original issue.I agree, try benadryl for the itching. Good luck.
You might try charcoal or choraphyll (oh THAT'S misspelled) tablets like what people with colostomies take to reduce body odors. You can probably get them from the pharmacy, ask the pharmacist, they can steer you in the right direction...If your dog has oily skin, that can make them somewhat stinky too. Also, check the ears, a yeast infection can make them really smelly....
