My 6 month old male Havanese is awfully smart. Of course, I'm biased. I've never owned a puppy before. Thank god for sites like these. They've been a lifesaver. I've also watched a lot of training videos on youtube and try the ones which use positive reinforcement.
col-Bert (Bertie, most of the time) carries out the following commands perfectly in the house: come, watch me, sit, stay, laydown, rollover, bang, find it, fetch.. but outside... if there are kids around, I can't even get him to look at me. Will he grow out of this? Is this just part of being a puppy?
When you take him outside have him on a leash, so you have control of him. Have treats with you and a toy he likes, talk to him work with him so that he sees you as more fun that the kids or anything else going on around him. Good luck.
I love German Shepherds and will always have one with me for the rest of my life!
