In my house, there is an archway that leads from my dining room into the den. One of my brats decided to start chewing on the trim piece. Now these dogs have about a billion toys to play with but she decided the wall looked good. Well, that led to my other brats following her in chewing and they make about a 6 inch mess on my wall. Now, when I would see them doing it, they would get in trouble. I used bitter spray and sprayed the wall several times. They would just keep going back to it and doing it again.
Well, I cooked some hot wings...(they make my husband cry)...so while I was walking through the house with the wings, I decided to give them a taste of the sauce...yes, I rubbed the chewed area with my ultimate wing sauce. Trust me, this stuff is super hot. What did these brats do? They went straight to the wall and tried to take a big bite. They quickly stopped and 2 of the females even started whining. I know that sounds so cruel and I do love my babies but seriously, they can't destroy my house. Needless to say, they haven't gone anywhere near that wall in the past 2 days.
Hubby told his mom about it and she said I was really mean! She said I shouldn't treat my dogs like that. I just thought I was saving my house here. I had to call a professional remodeling company to come out and the estimate to repair it is almost $200! Yikes!
Anyway, just wanted some opinions to see if I'm really mean or not. But it did work and no one seems to be harmed.
Friends will step in when the rest of the world steps out.
Sometimes you have to do whatever works. My bullmastiff was eating his own poop. I poured hot sauce on it and he never tried it again after one bite. Some dogs are more stubborn than others. You got to do what works.
Well, thanks for the additional option. My kids have their own room to hang out in and amuse themselves by excavating on the wall despite all their toys and a rotation of those toys. I actually painted the bottom of the walls in there with dishsoap and a red pepper mix (no other way could figure to stick the pepper to the wall AND make it taste bad so I just did both). I have to wash it off and do it again regularly. It does not seem to be working for my little boy (sigh). My hubby commented this morning that if the outside wall wasn't brick they'd be running the street's by now since one in particular is so big now. I definitely don't think it's mean and am probably going to try it myself, so thanks.
Is it ok to use Frank's Red Hot Sauce? Our new addition to the family is a poo eater and we live in an apartment complex where people are just too lazy to pick up after their dogs. So it makes it very difficult for me out there on the landmine field. We have learned the command "leave it", but it only seems to work some of the time.
I think I know what i'll be doing after work tomorrow!

I wish that using something hot would work on Rat pup. He will eat anything and everything put infront of him!
Honesty i don't think your hotwing sause was a mean way to go. It's better and easier way to train them then spanking or yelling. Besides i treat my dogs like children and that's how we broke my niece of sucking on her thumb!
Thats awesome! "Hot sauce".. I'll have to try that on our table. Our Lab gets on the kitchen table licks it clean and then has a nap on it!! Great idea! I thought you were going to day you beat them with a stick or something! lol
