I have 5- 6 week old puppies. They are being weaned from their mom right now. So they nurse and eat puppy food. I do not breed puppies, and so I forgot about worms until one puppy pooped out like 10 worms today. I just got an over the counter dewormer, and after I gave it to all of my dogs and puppies, one of the puppies throw up, and had a worm in her throw up. Do I need to give her more medicine, since she throw up? She is not playful, she is just laying on me, not wanting to move. It is Friday night, so the vet will not be open till Monday. What should I do? Can it wait until Monday? The people that wants to adopt the puppy that is throwing up, told me that they do not have have money to get her he shots yet, and worm medicine. So I worry about that too. The daddy dog, just throw up too. No worms in his throw up, but should I give him more meds too? Or wait the 14 days. So many questions. I just want to do what is best for my dogs and puppies.
First of all what over the counter brand did you buy? Most are NOT safe for pups that young. Generally only a vet can provide safe wormer for young pups unless you mail order the proper brand. NO< if you medicated and she threw up do NOT re-dose her, there is no way to know how much it may have already absorbed and giving her more could be toxic/fatal.
Does the dad have his vaccinations UTD? Wonder, with him being ill as well, if this isnt something else causing it besides the worms?
Puppies can face very quickly, you may need to make a trip to the ER vet. Most vets do have Saturday am hours, but since you missed that time, the ER vet is next up.
For the person wanting the pup and they say they cant afford the shots and wormings right now....I would NOT place a puppy with them. If they cannot afford the low cost preventative care, how will they manage if something serious comes up?
