I recently adopted a rescued Irish Setter from a local ARF. When my daughter and I picked her up, she was severly underweight, extremely timid, and hates men. We have shown her lots of love and attention and take her on daily long walks and she is starting to trust us. She is a year old. We also have another dog (Spunky, a Beagle/Terrier mix) that we have had for 7 years. At first they got along, but the Irish Setter (Angel) has started getting very jealous of Spunky and nipping at him. Of course, we have been showing her extra affection since we adopted her. She has started nipping at Spunky when I call him to me and he has started shaking when she's near. Besides correcting her when I catch her, what else can I do?
Keep them seperated, or hire a perfessional trainer to come in and work with you and the dogs. Humane societies see this change in behavior alot. when a dog is not feeling well, you don't always see it true personality. Once they are feeling back to normal it comes out. It really isn't fair to you older dog to be the punching bag. good luck
