I have a 3 month old shih tzu and didn't like the crate at first. Took him 5 nights to get used to it. No problem at night, however during the day with me and hubby if we're home; Ozzy barks up a storm and doesn't want to stay in the crate. The only time he doesn't bark is when he sees hubby and I are leaving with our coats on.
On the other hand, my daughters are home and passes his crate and never a peep out of him. He stays in the crate during the afternoon when my daughters are home and never gives them a problem.
he knows you all as the ones who get him out of the crate. Mine will always bark and carry on when I am home and they are in there crates. If you need to put him away for some reason when you are home, why not get an x-pen. he can have all of his toys, food, etc. and still have his own play area.
