I finally got a puppy! We got a mini beagle and shes 16 weeks but she ran into a problem. It seems our new member has a few behavior issues. Firstly she bites. You'll be playing and shell go like shes going going to lick your face and she snaps at it and I don't know how to discipline her. If I say no she keeps going so any tips?
Yep, she's a puppy! She has to be taught that she can't hurt mommmy and daddy.
She is going to have to learn that biting hurts. When you play with her and she does that, immediately stop the fun and very firmly tell her NO! I have a little spray bottle with lemon juice and water and when I bring in a newbie, I just squirt a little dab in their mouth when they bite or even nip, like they're going to bite.
This is not harmful and of course, doesn't hurt them in any way but it does help to deter this behavior and they usually catch on pretty fast.
Congrats on the new baby and best of luck!

I recently read a puppy training book (maybe I should go check the title....) that says that it's better if the puppy nips a little -- and therefore has a chance to learn bite inhibition. The author says it's worse if the puppy is too shy to ever bite as a pup. Then one day as an adult they reach their limit of frustration -- and pow!
So I am following that advice during early puppy-hood. Little nipping is all in fun. If it hurts, I say "OW!" and get up and leave the room for a minute. Over the next month or two, the threshold for "hurts" will get lower and lower, until it includes teeth at all.
