I just adopted a 9 month old puggle and he is wonderful. He suffers from seperation anxiety and I am trying to leave him at home for small periods to get him used to being alone. The previous owner mentioned that he wined a little bit when they left the house, but he tends to cry very loud when left alone. It has been suggested to me to crate train him while I leave or to place him in a separate room of the house. Any suggestions about training an adopted dog and breaking them of old habits. He is very smart and listens to basic commands. We are also trying to train him not to jump up.
Mel I have a 3 year old Puggle. "Rocky". We rescued him when he was 4 1/2 months old. We crated him while we were at work. Worked out fine. Gave him a kong with about a teaspoonful of peanut butter shoved into it and crated him. He was fine. We potty trained him in less than 10 days, with treats.
Lonesome? LORD YES!!!!!! Lovable? Like no dog I have ever every owned!!!! Smart? Incredibly so. We took him through intermediate dog training, and he can sit, lay, stay etc. However, he still jumps up and barks!
We love him to death. The vet and the trainers both told me they are very stubborn BUT once they learn something they never forget. TRUE!!!
Rocky walks with his nose to the ground (the beagle part. Loves walks, lots of loving, etc.
You will LOVE your's more and more as the days pass. I you ever have a question, pm me and I will give you my phone number.
Good luck, you will so enjoy this dog, and he will love you with a passion!!!
