Well, we got our dog, Benny, from my sister.. And she got him for free from a couple who was trying to find him a new home. He chewed up a lot of her stuff, so now we have him. My sister said that they said he was a "Chihuaranian"(Pomeranian/Chihuahua), but i certainly can't see any Pomeranian in him. We think he is most likely part Chihuahua... And he looks a lot like most pictures of "Chi-weenies"(Chihuahua/Dachshunds) i've seen.. So that's the best idea i have of what he is.. It doesn't account for him long curly tail, though. He looks a lot like a min-pin, but he has a much larger chest and shorter legs.. So i kind of doubt he is one. We have a Chihuahua, and we definitely see a lot of similarities between Benny and Taco.. He's clingy to people in a very chihuahua way.. He shivers when he gets nervous.. He also gets those strange little asthma-attack-ish episodes that are common with chihuahuas. Anyway, just curious to see if any of the the dog people here have any ideas to add about what he may be.... or if you think i'm correct in thinking that he's likely a Chiweenie. I'm sure a lot of you here know more about dog breeds than i do. Anyway, here's some pics of our adorable little Benny boy.. I know i go kind of crazy with taking pictures of my pets, but i just got a new camera and they're just such pretty doggies :)
hypnotic -- Oxford said that there's no such breed as a "Chi-weenie." She didn't say that animals that people call "chi-weenies" don't exist. You'll find I'm a stickler for details, and you're 0-for-2 so far.
I'm guessing chi-min pin mix, although that's an uneducated guess. I assumed the curly tail was a chihuahua trait.
Thanks for the input. And, yes, he's getting spoiled. He's mostly well-bahaved too, except for all the paper he rips up. He'll find a paper towel or something somewhere and make confetti. He also tries to take food out of my plate when i eat... lol
He could have Pomerian in him. Long hair is recessive to short hair, meaning if you breed a long haired dog to a short haired dog the puppies will have short hair (unless the short haired dog is carrying long haired genes, or the long hair is actually wire hair).
My sister in law once took a shorthaired Chihuahua/Dachshund and bred it to her Pomerians. From the ones I saw, they had curled tails and short hair. They looked basically like a long bodied Chihuahua with a more curled tail (not necessarily getting the Dachshund legs).
Congrats on your new addition and hope his manners continue to improve!
