I adopted a 4 month old great dane/mastiff mix (looks just like a great dane). He went thru a growth spurt for the first 2 months we had him and then his growth has just kind of slowed to a snail's crawl! He's 10 month's old and he is only 24 inches at the shoulders and weighs around 50lbs. Shouldn't he be alot taller/bigger by now? Or am I waiting on another growth spurt?
I had another great dane/doberman mix when I was younger (unfortunately I only got to keep him until he was 6 mos.old) but he was a quite a bit larger than this dog at that age.
Is there something wrong with my dog? My vet says he's fine, but to be honest my vet is a rural vet and not up on alot of new things and equipment, but he has the biggest heart and he actually cares for and about my dogs, so I stick by him.
Please help because he is the most loving, caring, sweetest dog I have ever met!!
Every dog is different. Big dogs are not fully grown until 2 years of age, while smaller dogs can reach full height at 6-8 months of age, then start to "fill out". You do not want your dog to grow too quickly, because larger breeds tend to have health problems. The slower they grow, the better. Make sure you feed him a larger breed good quality kibble. Be patient, and just give him some time.
Animals, what animals? My children just have alot of hair!
