One of the dacshund puppies have long hair, whats up with that. Both of the parents are short haired and thier parents are short haired, is this uncommon? Pretty funny too cause she was the first to be sold LOL"
Long hair is a recessive gene, this means it is lurking in the genetics of both mom and dad just not actually exhibited in them. Those two lurking gene's found them selves paired up in that puppies genetics and that causes them to be expressed. The other puppies more than likley got a single lurking gene from one of the parents and carry the long hair, but it takes two lurking genes from each parent to make them actually look long haired.
Happens in Malinois...and you know what is crazy. The AKC is the only registry in the world that recongizes them as a different breed than thier parents...how insane is that. If 2 Malinois have a long haired puppy, it's now a Tervueren.
I believe a dog's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment he holds dear, is when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle-with a ball in his mouth."
