Anybody's help is URGENTLY needed before our 18 month old English Cocker Spaniel,(Field variety) has to be put to sleep because he will insist on sinking his teeth into my wife's hands when she tries to dry his feet after bathing or even when coming in from walking on wet ground. He will growl at me when I dry him but, as yet, he has not bit ME! Because I work shifts he spends more time with the wife than with me and therefore it is imperitive that he gets on with her, and they have attended Obedience Training together which, in my humble opinion, appears to have been a waste of time and money, as he still pulls on the lead, will not walk to heel and will not come back when called on the odd occasion when we dare let him off the lead. Fellow Dog walkers that we have spoken with have only suggested that we just don't bother wiping his feet but whilst we are not extremely 'houseproud' we do like to be clean and tidy so that suggestion is not acceptable. As stated at the top this is URGENT as I'm afraid that I will awake one day and discover that the wife has had enough and taken him to the Vet before I can intervene.
Call some local trainers/behaviorists in your area. He really needs someone that can evaluate his behavior.
Is he fixed? Where did you get him? Meet the parents? Been seen by a vet? Is it only when wiping the feet? Honestly if my dog bit me repeatedly I would put it down in a heartbeat. Cockers seem to have a lot of issues and biting and that almost springer rage seem to be some of them.
Crate the dog while you are not home for now. Your wife should not have to be bit dealing with the dog.
