Soooo is it me or is it hard to believe that everyone with aan english bulldog that is healthy payed 2000+ for it?Its like its a toss up regardless i see people saying they paid that much and there puppy eventually got sick anyway....but other people say not to buy cheaper dogs not because some people might not see a reason to charge that much if there not a breeder and there dog happend to get pregnant...but because if they are cheaper there almost certainly gonna be a problem...Its just confusing
Well bred dogs are expensive, period. I'm hoping to get a Standard Poodle next year and will pay over a $1000, possible even $2000. (We're talking about a puppy from long line of fully tested and titled dogs.) That's for a breed that doesn't require such extreme measure to reproduce, so I can understand paying more for a Bulldog of equal quality. Especially w/ a breed like the Bulldog, you can pay now or pay later. They have a lot of health issues and they are expensive to treat. Why not spend the $2-3k now, instead of $1500 on a puppy and $4k on hip surgery or $500 a year for meds?
I do think it's ridiculous to spend thousands for a pup w/o testing behind it. I noticed an ad on my local access channel for an "AKC piebald male Bulldog, pick of the litter$2300." I wanted to laugh. If it's the pick why is it the last one available? And surely if they are asking that much in my area (prices tend to be lower here) they need more to offer that color and registration. Which brings up another point, prices vary across the country, with the coasts usually being more expensive.
I would suggest looking at the national breed clubs website: http://www.thebca.org/ There should be tons of info on what makes a good breeder and what health issues you want to see testing for. Most breed club even maintain a breeder referral list. Breed specific forum are a great source of info, try googling "bulldog forum" and see what you get. Also check out a dog show, it's how I found the breeder I'm hoping to get a pup from.
Well, I am a breeder of English Bulldogs and I never charge a ridiculous price of $2000,00. for a pup. I have nothing but happy satisfied customers from the past 8 years. My husband makes our living and I have the dogs because I love them and to help with my parents medicine and things they need. Most of my money goes back into the care and feeding of the dogs.I am in Kentucky and the prices here range from $1000.00-$2800.00. It just depends on the breeder you buy from. And if the dogs is their only source of income. Be careful and don't buy from anyone that can not supply references from customers and their vet. And when they give you references, check them, don't just take their word for it.Also, check with AKC and see if they have any complaints filed against the breeder. Dogs are a living thing and sometimes problems will arise even from the best bloodlines. But if the breeder is continuosly producing bad pups it will catch up to them. Please be careful and don't get in a hurry to get a bulldog.
