I have just adopted a 2 year old Akita. I have had him for a little over a week. He is starting to show a slight agression to our 4 year old daughter. I know he is trying to set his rank in our family. He has had basic training. We had gotten him from a 80 year old women who had him from a 12 week old puppy. She could no longer take care of him do to health problems. She had grand kids around him but not all the time. I was told by her daughter the dog was pretty spoiled. He does listen to his basic commands, he has not tried to challenge them yet. My concern is the slight agression he is showing towards our daughter. I would like to know the best way to take care of this before it gets to far. Our daughter is not afraid of him yet and I don't want her to. I want to give him a chance and the best home possible. I would like to know what the best way is to take care of this problem. I am asking for your help. Thank you for your time.----------Mark Wade
Frankly, I am not the biggest fan of akitas, so this may be a bit biased.
I would suggest a trainer imediatly. Akitas can have a on heck of a nasty streak. In fact I think they are on the banned breed list in some states. I did a lot of research on them some 20yrs ago, so my info may be out dated, but I felt at the time it was not a breed I would like to own.
Anyway, I know I will be bashed for this opinion, but I would definatly seek a perfessional trainer asap.
