My wonderful flat coat is 11 1/2 and is experiencing extreme signs of failing hips, well, it seems so. I keep him lean, much to his dismay and still eats eagerly and drinks a ton of water, but when it comes to going for a walk, he's very reluctant. His hips seem to give out on him. Once he was walking on wet grass and both hind legs just slid under him and he couldn't get up without my help. I know I am lucky to have him still, but want him around as long as possible. I know he is in pain, but don't know what to do. He is on Innova, Senior for large dogs which has glucosamin and chlor. He also takes Bio-pet enzymes. Any suggestions for my wonderful boy.
By the way his name is Blue - aka Folly's in the News.
Try adaquan, I know I spelled that wrong, but you get the idea. It is an injectable gluecosimine. It was used widely for years in horses, and is now on the market for dogs. Some dogs due well on it, and some do not. It isn't really cheap either. Rymidil is a great pain reliver, but long time use can cause intestinal problems and liver problems, kinda like us with long term use IB profen. I don't see a problem when it is the only thing that helps in the end.
good luck with whatever you decide, and I do applogize for my horrible spelling.
