I have two dogs a shih tzu and a Rough collie, the collie will eat anything but my shih tzu is so fussy i have tried most of the prinium brands dry foods and mid range but she turns her nose at all of them.I also feed her proto meat at times ,i don't like feeding her raw meat as she gets really dirty around the face. I would like her to eat dry food because it's complete and helps keep their teeth clean, has anyone any suggestions is there a premium dry food that anyone uses that their dog enjoys?Which is better dry food, raw,or cooked meat?
you got yourself to blame for this behavior. She trained you well. she knows that if she won't eat and wait a bit longer, something better will come along.
You should offer her the food that YOU chose for her. If she doesn't eat it at her normal feeding time, take it away and don't give her anything until the next normal feeding time. If she still wont eat it, take it away again and wait till the next time. she may skip few meals, but sooner or later she will eat. she won't let herself starve to death.
The essence of hypocrisy is the tendency to make an exception of oneself.
my dog is one and half he is healthy very energetic he doesnt seem to thin hes 78 pounds but sometimes he will go a day with out eating i have to sit on the floor with him and hand feed him one at a time because i feel bad.. im not use to this all my mothers dogs always went crazy over any food put in front of them.. the vet said he looks very ideal i just dont understand his bahavior sometimes ... he will rarely eat breakfast and dinner. any one else have a picky dog?
I agree with Juno. You are creating a picky eater by allowing them to tell you what to feed them. YOU choose the food you want to feed. Place it down for a set time, say 15 minutes. If they dont eat, pick it up. Give nothing until that eveing, then give them another 15 minutes. They will eat! And they will learn that their food is what you give them.
By giving in and changig foods and hand feedig them , you are letting them be picky ad controlling.
