i have a question about shipping overseas. i have a guy wanting to buy a puppy from me and this is my first time having someone wanting one from overseas. who or how do i go about shipping my puppy safetly? any info is helpful. thanks in advance
I could be wrong here but I think you may be the target for a scam.
Did the "buyer" tell you that he is overseas on business but he can mail you a cashier's check? The check is going to contain extra money and you are to cash the check at your bank and then western union the excess money to his "shipping agent" who will come to your house to pick up the puppy?
This is a common scam and will land you in nothing but trouble.
Again, maybe I'm wrong about this one but I never have shipped any of my babies overseas. I rarely ship anyway but when/if I do, it's here in the US only.
As far as your original question, maybe someone else will be along with more experience in overseas shipping.

London? That is also a city where a lot of scammer's claim to be from. Especially if you have a "run of the mill" dog. Not to diss your dogs or anything but usually the only dogs that get shipped to other countries are dogs of very high profile such as top ranked show dogs. I am sure there are plenty of other similar caliber dogs over there and for them to inquire about yours would be strange in my opinion.
Shipping within the US is quite easy though. I know a lot of people think it is the worst thing in the world but compared to several days and nights on a road trip it is actually a lot better. I have had dogs shipped to me and shipped dogs to others and have NEVER had one come out scared to death or any worse than if I had driven them that far to the same location. Socialize your dogs and puppies and it should not be anything that can't handle.
I agree w/ the other post. You should ask yourself why this person is going to the trouble of having a dog shipped from the US. Is he looking for a great show dog, a particular bloodline, is it a rare breed where he lives, etc? What about quarantine? You also need to look into any BSL in the UK. Pitbulls are just as controversial there and many European nations have bans and restrictions.
I have successfully shipped my puppies to quality clients in such places as:
• Madrid, Spain • Milan, Italy • St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles • Bogota, Columbia • Stockholm, Sweden • Abu Dhabi, UAE • Nova Scotia, Canada
Each country has its own set of import "hurdles" as I call them. However, I have found that my export clients are my most lucrative. There are many people of means that want what you have offer just because it is so rare where they are. You do yourself a disservice by discounting this market.

What breed do you raise and what quality are they? "Just pets or top show/working dogs?" I'm not a huge fan of shipping general, but there are some international breeders who have great dogs and I would love to have one someday. One is in Australia, one in Sweden and another in Brazil. I just saw the most gorgeous toy Poodle that was imported from Korea. Some great dogs come from importing, it's helped w/ the looks and working ability of GSDs, Rotties, and Dobermans; it's improved the coat quality and color in Poodles. The point is those dogs are something extra, there is a reason to import/export them. And it not just about money.
P.S. I did read last night that pitbulls are indeed banned in the UK and b/c people still own them there, they are cracking down. They are also trying to ban other breeds like Rotties and Bullmastiffs.
