About a week ago my fiance and I adopted an adorable lab/boxer mix.She is really calm and has not been much of a problem in training. She was house trained pretty quickly and we are teaching her how to sit but the problem is the leash.Every time we put it on her she yelps and cries or wont move.I have no idea how to get her over this.I know she needs leash training but can someone give me some advice on how to work on this problem with her? Thanks!!!
it seems there may be some issue with her and the leash, almost as if she had been hit with it in the past. you may want to start out with either a traffic lead or a very thin leash attached to her collar at all times you are there to supervise her. do not leave the leash on when you cannot watch her so she doesn't become entangled in it or potentially strangled by it. attach it to a buckle collar, not a choke chain or prong collar or any collar that when pulled constricts. you may need to do this for awhile until she gets used to the leash and comes to understand it will not hurt her. as she becomes used to the leash you, if using a traffic lead, can graduate to a full length leash, or if using a thin leash graduate to her normal leash.
once she has gotten used to the leash i would suggest you take her to a qualified trainer, and ask for assistance in leash training her. she may revert back to this behavior once you start using the leash for collar corrections and you will need the voice of experience to guide her and you through it.
