HElp! I recently brought home a 6 month old chihuahua and am having a hard time potty training him! He does ok with his pee pads in upstairs of the house but is not consistent with using them, especially when downstairs. He often pees on the carpets etc even when he starts to go/ is about to go I move him to the pee pads and he refuses to use it.often times I will also bring him outside and he wont go only to come inside and immediately go. Any tips on this problem? Also I would love to crate train him, but he cries and yelps whenever hes in the crate, not just for a few minutes but for however long hes in there. any advice would help thanks!
Puppies and dogs are just like kids; they cry long enough and they will get what they want! lol
It will be hard, and inconvenient at first, but leave the dog in the crate regardless of his hissy fit. Yes, he will cry, whine, and have a tantrum, but if you reward him when he's quiet, he will eventually calm down. (This may take several days.) You can give him Nylabones, a Kong, or another toy to make his crate comfortable, too. Also, make sure that he is getting enough attention, mental stimulation, and excercise throughout the day when not in his crate. A tired pup, is a good pup!
