My aunt has a female chihuahua that is about 10 months old. When she came into heat my aunt let her Yorkshire Terrier that does not look like a yorkie and weighs 10 lbs. and her male chihuahua "lock"(??) with the female.Well she is now pregnant. The poor little girl is no more than three lbs and very tiny. The vet says it looks like she is pregnant with at least four puppies. To me this is horrible to do to her she is still a puppy.Does this count as animal cruelty and if so what can I do to save this little girl from this happening to her again?
That is horrable she is way to young to be bred. Unfortalty it happens all the time and I don't think that there is anything that can be done to stop her from doing it again. As long as she is taking care of the dog food, water and shelter the law can not take the dog from her. It is so sad that people chose to do this to there dog just to make a little money. It gives all the good breeders out there a bad name. I may be wrong I hope I am!
I think it should be considered cruelty, but it isn't. It is really sad your Aunt cares so little for that little girl. She will probably required a c-section, so you may want to point her in the direction of information.
I would also try to educate her on responsible pet ownership, as it sounds like she really needs it. show her puppy mill information, and take her to shelters. show her how her breeding her dog is not good for it, and she is just adding to the over population problem.
good luck with everything, and I hope the female survives the pregnancy.
I just got off the phone with her she said the little girl Izzy is due in a couple weeks she guesses!?!?!She has not even taken her to the vet and Im no genius but I am pretty sure she should have gone to the vet by now!I tried talking to her but she wont listen to me.This is very upsetting especially cause she is hoping the puppies are "chorkies"!I want to get this little female out of this situation. My aunt has owned dogs in the past and i cant think of one that made it past 2.Is there anything I can do?
Im not yanking any chains...she had a vet come out to her house and check the dog.He went by feeling her stomach to guess how many puppies she is having.I was stating my aunt is not taking her dog to the vet clinic for any blood work or anything of that nature.Im sorry for the misunderstanding.
