Are kittens born and raised outdoors more crazy and wild than kittens raised indoors? We took in a kitten last fall that had been born outdoors and raised outdoors for the 1st 4-5 weeks of his life by his mom and 4 siblings. Now I have had kittens before but this kitten is wilder than any of my cats ever were as babies. He is sweeter and more affectionate than any kitten/cat I have ever known or had but he is a terror. He runs through the house like his tail is on fire, he will climb on everything and anything he can, the higher the better. Thank God he hasn't yet figured out a way to get onto the ceiling fan, though I am sure it is only a matter of time because he sits and stares at it and I swear he is just trying to figure out a way to get on the blades lol. He has gotten alot better about our food, but from day 1 he has attacked our food plates like he had never eaten in his life ... which since I had been feeding them all along outdoors and in, I know he never starved. He is the only cat i have ever had to teach a LEAVE IT command too !! And he knows what it means and listens lol. He has to have his nose in EVERYTHING! He follows you around the house checking out what you are doing and seeing if you need his help. He will sit and watch you wash dishes, do laundry...climbs in and out of the dryer, in and out of our Christmas boxes, killed almost all our Christmas balls. He has to bat everything in sight, he even drinks dirty water out of the sink. Could care less if it's soapy dish water. Thankfully he has an iron stomach!!
We named him firestar after a character out of a series of cat stories but most times he is either called firetart or Dennis the Menace. He will also run across the room and jump right on you, claws out and just cling to your clothes with a look on his face like Hi ! Watcha doin?
I have never encountered behavior like this in a kitten. Were my other cats just abnormal?
yes, feral cats raised outside by there moms tend to be more wild. Mom is feral, so she has tought them how to survive. It is kinda like going stir crazy. I am sure he is halarious to watch. I can just imagine him jumping all over everything. I agree, one day he will figure out the fan lol. I am not the biggest cat person as all the ones I have owned are outside barn cats. I am severly allergic, so I can not have them inside around me.
