just brought my siberian husky to the vet, she has an infection of the paw and is going on antibiotics. the vet also said she was a little under weight she is 41.lbs. she is in great shape fit as a fiddle and really healthy eats normally, on the odd occasion might not touch food for a day or two but then back to herself again. a friend of mine has been breeding the dods for many years now and e says she is also in great shape! any advice on wat to do?
You have a pup with bacterial infection, but is otherwise healthy. You are treating with antibiotics. This problem is what? The vet thinks she is a little underweight? Depending on how long she's had the infection, that might have impacted her appetite. You may not need to change anything. How much/how often do you feed her? Maybe you need to increase the amount very slightly.
Active dogs, can be a healthy underweight, if that makes sense. I have raised aussies, and now mini aussies for years. It is not unusual for me to have one or two who is a bit underweight. Nothing wrong with them, there metabalism(sp?) is just really fast. I have found that a couple of teaspoons of quality canned food help some.
You are treating the infection, and she sounds fine. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
