Hello. I just adopted an ACD puppy (about 4-5 months old). He has not come home yet but I want to start things off on the right foot. I have been warned that ACDs are highly intelligent, high energy dogs. I am a very hands on pet "mama" and spend lots of time with my dogs so I am excited about agility training, etc when he gets older. I do have a full time job & plan on taking the puppy to work but will have to leave him at home from time to time. What are the best toys for ACD puppies? Any suggestions of games, activities to keep my boy occupied? I would really appreciate any suggestions! Thanks!
Hi, Kongs are great for just about all dogs. Fill them with something yummy. They even have recipies for different things, they are great. In warm weather, you can freeze them, and make an extra special treat. They are diswasher safe, so they can be cleaned.
I have mini aussies, so they are around the same size as your ACD. I do have a treat ball, you will have to watch your little guy to make sure he doesn't chew it. My girls with actually pick it up and bring it to me when it is empty. It is a riot.
Rawhide, in my opinion is your best friend for a chewer. I know there have been alot of arguments on it, but I still feed it to all my dogs. I only purchase rawhide that is made in the USA. PM me for the link to an wonderful site for USA rawhide, and you can buy in bulk saving you money.
The rawhide I get is thick, and allows for hours of chewing. When the peices get small, I take them away and throw them away. Large peices that are swollowed cause problems, as they do not digest well. I also do not like knoted bones, as I am afraid they will get the knots off and swallow, the knots whole. I use only the rawhide doughnuts, and rolled retrivers.
