A cat decided to move into my house a month or two ago. She just kept hanging around and eventually moved in. I got her shots and was going to get her fixed ... but it became painfully obvious she was pregnant before I could get it done.
So today she had kittens. She had them on my couch and I think there are 9 of them (way more than I ever could have guessed).
- I was going to leave her alone tonight but tomorrow I will have to move her and the kittens and clean up the couch. I can't leave that in my living room. Is there any right way to do this? Will it be OK if I move her tomorrow? - She still seems OK with me (i.e. I pet her while she was nursing and she seems fine). - What kind of box should I put her and the kittens in? Should I just tip a big box over on its side so it is open ... or should I get a shallow box so the kittens can't get out? - They are on the first floor now ... but should I keep them in the basement?
Hi i'm new to this too mine had babies thurs. u need a box that mom can get in and out of but babies can't and to change the towel 2 x a day. they need a warm place so i say no on basement.if this is all greek to ya look up new kittens and theres lots of info out there. good luck
yes you do need to move them alittle u just have to becareful not to upset the mom and she won't take care of them anymore.. so handle only when needed . i found a better forum with people that seem to answer fast http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/index.php? i'm first time granny here and not your best hope lol good luck
Hello, First congrats on being adopted by a stray lol I have taken in 3 female strays who it turned out were pregnant (not all at once) One had 3 babies and another had 2 the one who gave birth 3 weeks ago had 6 All boys. My household consists of a total of 6 big cats and now 6 kittens im trying to downsize lol I make sure everybody is healthy and fed and let momma cat handle the rest. Cats are clean animals mom will take care of any mess the baby's make so dont worry right now about changing the bedding when they start on real food then do that as of now mom eats the waste and keeps the bedding clean. As for where to keep mom and babies my cats always preferred under my bed they feel safe and secure under there. u can get a under the bed storage tote and put light weight baby blankets in it for the gang and mom and she will be happy. keep her food and litter close to the room so she wont stress about being away from the babies. And i handle my kittens all the time my cats dont mind at all. Just watch the mom if the ears come back while u handle the babies she is not happy but if she just looks curious or trys to take the baby back she is just being a very good mom good luck and enjoy!
my past cats have had a grand total of three litters and a grand total of 11 kittens. i found that once they have given birth i move them to my bedroom so that there is more peace and quit. i found that if she diddnt like where i put her and the babies. . . she will move them herself. good luck
