Hi I need some help for a lady that just got one of my rescue dogs. She called me today and said he is digging up her yard and wanted to know if I knew how to stop him from doing it. I have no clue. So I told her I would get on here and ask for help.
Ah digging, that wonderful thing that seems so irresistible to our loved ones lol! Here is a link to a discussion with some tips But I have to say, sometimes, there is no cure. I'm with Illusionminis on this, I'm always filling holes too.
When putting in a fence, we were told to lay the fencing either on the ground on the inside, or dig it about 6" deep. Our fenced yard has an 8' fence, plus 2' of fencing lining the inside just under the dirt. Not a single problem with digging.
Where they dig, if you bury the hole, then lay wire and throw dirt over the top of the wire, they won't dig there any longer. We use welded wire with the cut edges trimmed closely or pointed down, so as not to hurt the dog. You can also fill the holes with gravel, and then top it off with 6" of dirt so the grass will grow. Our dogs stopped digging right after we did these two things, but we still allow the one hole under the pine tree for cool summer naps.
