So you may have read in my other posts I was thinking about getting a dog but at this point in life a dog would be alot to handle so Ive been looking at other animal companionship options :). After much thought I have decided to get a rat and my parents agree. I am super excited, were gonna get one sometime this week..Maybe tommorrow? Ive never owned a rat before..Have you? I read they are really smart and that you can train them. Also they bond well with their owner. Thats probably the main reason I chose them, most rodents dont seem to notice you much. Just wanted to brag a little..(Im kind of excited )

I had one as a pet while attending college. I called him ... Rat. I don't know it just fit. Anyway he was the smartest most perceptive little thing. He would know when I would come home and would greet me by jumping up on the wire of his cage and then do this somersault thing to the floor of the cage.
I would put him in the grass outside to play then stand back about 10 or 15 feet and call out to him. He would come in my direction, then stand on his hind legs, then come closer, stand again and finally run up to me when he was about 3 or 4 feet away. He would climb up my pant leg, climb up my shirt and come to rest on my shoulder. He was awesome!
Who would a thunk it! A rat!

We love rats. My daughters each had one when they were younger. Every night they would get out of their habitrail and climb in bed with the girls. They really love the warmth and companionship. Last week, we decided to buy a hairless rat. He is so loving, but so ugly. We named him Wilson and look forward to the next two years playing with him.
