I just got back from the vet with my pookie who is 6 pounds, she had to have 9 teeth pulled about a month ago, everything went fine, Now she has some skin rash on her body where it breaks out turns red then scabs up and then turns into a black spot. now they have run tests on her and she has nothing they have ever seen before. Has anyone ever delt with this? this is so frustrating, they told me to give her fish oil and some probotics, and charged me 120 bucks! I just want to make her skin better, it all started when they put her on an antiboitc for her teeth but she has been off it for a month now. Any help or thoughts on this will do! thanks doggie moms and dads!
did they do a skin scraping? Chances are it is not from the antibiotics, but it is possible that an underlying problem has shown up due to her being put under for the teeth cleaning.
Esp. in older dogs, after any sort of medical procedure(usually teeth) a medical problem can arise. The body is battling infections from the teeth and the stress of being put under. Between doing both of those, it can not longer battle a condition that may have been going on for some time. The immune system also get suppress when dealing with the above issue, and another issue can arise because of this. Usually at no fault of owner or vet, and due to the nature of the issue it can be hard to diagnose due to the fact that there were symptoms present before.
Demodectic mange is in most dogs, and their immune systems keep it at bay, showing no symptoms throughout the dogs life. This is because the body is working properly. The body's reaction and suppressed immune system due to the procedure may have brought this out. Talk to your vet about a skin scraping to see. Good luck
