At 2 1/2 (August) my dog starting scratching alot; it seems mostly at night but that may be because everything is quiet at night. I checked her for fleas (she gets a flea/tick treatment every month) and then took her to the vet. They confirmed no fleas and suggested an allergy probably food. I have since switched her food three times and nothing seems to help. Any other ideas.
If it is a food allergy just switching her food to something else may prove fruitless as you do not know what exactly she is allergic to and may be switching her to foods that contain the same ingredient. Also you need to give each food at least 6 weeks to determine if it is the food. It could also be seasonal allergies like grass, trees, etc. Spend the money to have her allergy tested for everything and that way you will know for sure and can treat her appropriately.
I feed a raw diet (in combination with some kibble now and again) but my dogs do very well on it. It's really easy and they love it; coats are black and shiny, eyes are bright and teeth and gums look excellent.

In addition to what scout said about getting the allergy test done.....you also need to know that when you switch foods, you must leave them on that food for at least 30 days or more before you are going to see any real change.
