Hi everybody. I'm new to the forum scene and thought I'd introduce myself. I'll post this both here and on the cat forum since they both apply. I usually go by Bill (that username is being used I guess) but my dad used to call me Liam so that's cool too. I have one dog, a nine-year-old Boxer/Rottie mix named Simon Paul. I had two cats, Gracey Mae and Kali, but Kali was a lost stray I bought in two months ago and she turned out to be pregnant, so now I have eight cats. They're the gift that keeps on giving. I'll post some pics of the cute little buggers later on--they were three weeks old last Monday. I already have takers for four of them and I'll more than likely keep the other two.
Anyway, I live in the beautiful country-side of Northwestern PA and work as a janitor at a local college--nothing greatly romantic about that. But its been a dream of mine for a long time to have enough money to buy a big piece of property and own and operate my own animal rescue and shelter. The Humane Society is still regulated by county government around here, but they are so underbudgeted it's amazing they can still operate. They are constantly asking for help and donations and we do all we can for them. I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think they went into partial private ownership to maintain operation. A privately owned shelter not far from where I live almost went into bankruptcy last year or the year before and it took a good bit of help from everyone around here to get it back on its feet again. With all that said, I know it wouldn't be easy running a shelter, but I figure if I can add one more temporary home for our furry friends, it would ease the burden on all the others.
I look forward to posting on the forum and talking to all you like-minded folks.
I've done what I can for years which has been mostly donating dog and at food or getting my buddies together and helping out where we can--donating time or whatever. Usually I have to talk them into it after a few beers. But whatever works, right? My wife hates going with me to the shelter cause I always want to bring them all home. She's not an animal hater by any means, we just don't have the room.
Hi and welcome. I am in the same boat as you, and live in south central Pa. I have always wanted to start and Aussie rescue, and don't have the time or space at the moment. I will get there one day, as I feel destined to do it. I do help alot with our local shelter (volunteer groomer), aussie, pit and poodle rescue. Mostly transport for poodle rescue, although I did bring one home. She will be 10 in Oct. Hubby little baby lol.
We can only do what we can do, and the animals love us for it.
