I have a one year old pitbull who is about to undergo full hip replacement surgery and possible knee replacement. Any advice as to how to help with the recovery process? has anyone been through this with your own dog? any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
These are probably just the obvious ones but my girl had it done when she was about a year old too. She is now 9 years old and is still going strong. But - lots and lots of rest. Keep them somewhere where they are comfortable and close to you all the time, like the living room or kitchen where someone is always right there (but also close to a door where you take her out). The best way I found to get Zadie up and moving was to sling a blanket or a towel under her hind end and that way I could help her stand up and walk with her. Also, where ever you put her make sure you put a tarp or a plastic table cloth or something down under her and her blankets as sometimes accidents will happen when she can't get up. Don't let her do too much too fast. I know there was something else but now I can't think of what it was. Oh well, maybe I'll remember in a minute. Best of luck! Hope it all goes well.
