I recently purchased a Shih Chon puppy this past weekend and when I came home yesterday she vomited a almost clear, yellow type matter. She did this about 3 or 4 times before drinking some water and going to hide for about 15 mins or so. She came out of hiding playing and being her usual self. In the middle of the night I heard her vomiting again. I don't know whats wrong! This is my first dog and I really dont know what to do. I explained the situation to one of my friends who has had dogs and she said it may have been because I am feeding her too much...is this a possibility? This morning she vomited once and went into hiding again...I didnt want to leave her alone at home but I had to be at work. Can ANYONE help!?! Thank you!
Most often dogs will vomit bile due to an empty stomach. Given the fact that this is a baby, it could be a virus ro something else. There is no advice here that I would recommended waiting for. I would take her to the vet. Little babies can dehydrate quickly and if she does that could turn a minor problem into a more serious one. Vomiting can also be the first sign of Parvo...in which case the earlier it is treated, the better the outcome for your puppy.
I was thinking Parvo also - a clear bile like vomit is a sign of Parvo. Of course, it could just be an upset stomach due to the excitement of a new home but just to be on the safe side I would take her in immediately. Parvo isn't something to wait on, get her checked asap.
Getting your pup checked is the first step, yet one thing came to mind for me. My girl is very sensitive to certain dog foods; we tried Iams, Science Diet etc, and she vomited yellow bile at least once a day. I finally settled with California Naturals, Herring and Sweet Potato, and that solved the problem. So, if all checks out at the vet, you may want to try this food. The lady that owns the dog store suggested it, as she had the same issue with her dogs. My Zoey hasn't vomited once since we started this food. Good luck!
Do you like in a house or an apartment? We recently had to take out 15 new olenander plants and replace them with hibiscus. I found a site that sold NHV Plantaeris online. I had them overnight this to me. I was desparate to keep my Boston Terrier from dying and this worked. It also stops her runs when she gets it, too. This is not an ad, but a lady who has a Pom and a Boston that are the only children she and her husband have. I can say that the vets couldn't stop her from getting sick! This worked! Good luck!
Dogs can vomit for many things, but if he is up on his shots, it was most likely something he ingested. I had a new pup owner whose pup would not stop vomiting and the vet told her he ate a plant in her back yard. When my male was 4 months old, he vomited for two days, I took him in, the vet tested him for parvo, xrayed him, put him on IV's and when he came home, he continued to vomit. I thought we would lose him and the vet said he could call another vet with an ultrasound. The ultrasound found a clear cassette tape that had cut in to his tongue, he had swallowed it and it was in his stomach and intestines. He had major surgery and they sent the cassette tape home with him. B/c they are now plastic, it did not show up on an xray.
Puppy proofing is like baby proofing. They will eat ANYTHING they can reach. Good luck.
