We have a sweet Labradoodle puppy that is 15 wks old. She has learned where we don't want her to go in the back yard (specifically potted plants) and when we try to get her away she runs like a mad woman from us! When we try to stand between her and the place we don't want her, it just gets her going more. We even try laying her on her side and holding her neck down calmly like Cesar does to show her we're boss, but it doesn't work. Is she too young for that? She's been eating bark, mulch, anything she can find and is on an antibiotic right now for bacteria we think came from the bark/mulch. Is her stubbornness normal for a teething pup her age and are our expectations too high or has she developed a bad habit that we'll have a hard time breaking (the running from us when we want her to come)? She has learned "come" but ignores us most of the time. Should we just be more consistent in teaching it to her over and over with treats?
She is a PUPPY! A normal one at that! She should be on a LEASH until she learns and can be trusted!! Or you should use an expen for her own saftey she will cry not wanting to be contained but oh well, she will get over it. She should NOT be left to run free and not listen this will only make her worse as an adult. Also check into a puppy obedience class that can help you.
Ok, first of all, she is a normal puppy. Second of all, she probably has not learned "come", she is 15wks. The only thing you all have really tought her is she doesn't have to listen to you.
You have a combination of 2 very energtic breeds, and a puppy with the attention span of about 2 seconds if you are lucky. She will need constant correction and training, and most puppies really don't "learn" much until they are around 6 months. This is a general average. I can teach my pups anything I want, and they do it. Around 6months, they seem to forget everything lol. That doesn't mean, don't do anything, continue what you have been doing, and don't give the puppy a chance to fail or disobey. Leashed or confined at all times. Played with often, and yes sign up for obediance asap.
Puppies take a lot of time and oh so much patience. Your dog will be a big puppy very quickly, and most labradoodles do not mature until at least 2yrs old. Even then they are a very energtic dog for most of their lives.
