I have a Brussels Griffon that just had bilateral patella surgery. I'm having a VERY hard time figuring out how to help him go potty. He can NOT put any weight on his rear legs for two weeks. He is over weight, because, unfortunately we've had to put the surgery off until we could afford it. So, he hasn't had any exercise, just ate and laid around. If anyone has had this problem with post surgery, I sure could use some suggestions!! He was just operated on yesterday, May 25, 2010. We tried using a towel as a cinch, but that completely covers the penile area. Please help us!! Thank you.
Hello. I haven't had this problem with my dog before. But, I have had gone through sergury before with my dog. She was very old and had diabetes and she sadly passed a few years back. This is very tough for you im sure. SO, just take it step by step. Also, how old is he? although, I have one suggesten. Do u have a pet bed for ur dog? If so, ask your vet if its alright if u can but warmth under his bed to keep warm. But, the most important of all is to make sure that he is heidrated with fluids in his system. Contact ur vet if he looks unwell or something is weird about his behievor.
Never quit on your dog or puppy, even if they are a little naughty.
In order to assist your dog with going potty without having your cinch cover the penile area try using long thin straps along the length of your dogs body under his legs rather than across the body in front of and behind the legs.
