i took in a beagle that a man had dumped she had puppies yesterday. she seemed to reject them at first i had to do every thing!if i did not have woke up on time they mite have died.she feed and started cleaning last night but around the early morning hours she was peeing on them. not feeding .... they were crying all night. she is still peeing on them she has stopped cleaning them and i have the make her feed. my stupid vet wont call me back. but for now ive put the puppies in a heated basket and cleaned them they have stopped crying to give her a break/sleep then i will try again. puppies are very fat and healthy. i dont know why she would do this ive raised orphan kittens but this is the first for puppies. any tip would help!
I am to at a lose on why she would pee on her pups. maybe she is marking them, and claiming them as her own. If you can continue to keep them seperate, and then make her feed them every couple of hours, that is good. You can just use a cotton ball soaked with warm water to simulate them for potty.
I am sure it isn't good for them to be soaked in urine, so I would just continue what you are doing. If she starts to get agressive towards the pups, then you will have to feed them every couple of hours. Right now if you can lay her down and hold her their till they are done eating, it is better.
yes it seems to work out better. i have them in a basket with baby blankets and a heat pad.. and its working great. and they are cleaner they have gotten a little bit more active. but they are sleeping more and crying less. im guessing they are happy :)
I'm so very sorry. I cannot imagine what a shock that must have been for you and your family.
I cannot think of anything that she could have caught that would kill her in such a small amount of time. No viruses or infections I can think of would kill a dog that quickly without them showing signs of something being wrong. I wonder if she bloated or maybe something specific to do with the delivery?
I think the fact is you didn't know much about the dog. If I remember correctly, she was dumped at a gas station. She may have had something going on, and that contributed to her strange behavior. A vet can not diagnose everything with just a simple exam, so unless you vet did a full blood panel, and evaluation, it is possible he missed something going on.
I am sorry she passed, you did the best you could, and she at least had a happy last few days. Keep your chin up, and take care of those babies.
or just estimating her age she probably could not handle the stress. but puppies seem healthy. im going to take them in the the vet soon. they are eating fine from a bottle. but they try to suck my fingers when i put them back in there box. but they feel full there bellies are nice and round. they are well hydrated.and going the the bathroom twice ..before they feed and after. im going the get some nutra cal puppy as a supplement. and they only whine when its around there feeding time.but i will be keeping them. they will be staying here in going to get them spayed and neutered and shots. one is black and tan with 2 white paws and the other is tri. little hound colors
I am so sorry to hear about this. The puppies are very fortunate to have you. I feed my newborns every three to fours hours round the clock. My bitch stepped on two pups in her first litter-separate incidents so I monitor all feedings now. Just Born and Goats milk are great for puppies and I supplement with both. I wish you the best and keep us posted.
