okay, this may be a little lengthy, but I want to make sure I do not leave anything out. I have a 1 year old female english bulldog. We have had her since she was 5 weeks and we have been very consistant with our poddy training. She does very well...she uses the bathroom every time we take her out...even if she only has to pee a couple drops, she will do something. I feel she is smart and well trained. She will to tricks and listens to our commands. The problem is, it is like she thinks that if pee is not visable, we will not know she did it. She will pee on anything that will soak it in. We have had to put gates up in the carpeted rooms. I cannot give her a bed. I hate that she does not have a bed, but when she had one she would pee on it atleast every other night and continue to lay on it, resulting in the issue of her smelling like pee. She can make it through the night easily because now that there is no bed, she waits until we take her out in the mornings. (She sleeps in the laundry room with a gate in the doorway at night). I even started leaving her carrier open in there so she wouldn't have to sleep on the floor. This worked pretty well for a few nights...she enjoyed sleeping in it, but then she peed in it and slept the rest of the night back on the laundry room floor. I feel she thought we would not see it in the carrier. She has also hid behind the bathroom door and peed once before too. We take her out around every three hours and after she eats. From where she chooses to pee when she does this, I get the impression she thinks it is hiding it. She is smart because when she has a real accident when we are gone for a while or something, she will crouch down with her ears down and hide behind the curtains when we come to let her out of the laundry room and discover the mess. Also, I have unsuccessfully tried to train her to give a signal such as scratching the door when she needs to go out before her regular time. Any suggestions on how to better do this? She usually performs tricks when we teach her, but when I was doing this she had a hard time focusing on the door. I would try to take her paw and do it to show her and she seemed confused and kept trying to do a handshake with me. Thank you to anyone who reads my very long post. Please help...I am thankful to any suggestion.
it sounds more like marking to me. Yes alpha female will mark just like males. Spaying isn't always the anwser. My mini poodle marks everything and there for is confined to her crate when I am not home. She will pee on her towel in the crate, and so I just change towels, I never give her a bed.
Coco(my poodle) was given for this and a bunch of other reasons, I got her through rescue. She is a doll, but don't turn your head lol. If this is your girl, there isn't much you can do besides diapers, and yes they do make them.
