My 14 month old Jack russell/shih tzu terrier has always had sore, red, swollen paws. The vet has biopsied her paws and could not find a reason. He thinks it may be food allergies or maybe an allergy to grass. I have tried changing her food several times but nothing seems to help. Any ideas on what I can do
The best thing to do would be to have allergy tests run, to see if it is a food allergy or an environmental allergy. Best thing for allergies is to find the cause and eliminate it, everything else is just covering up the symptoms.
I agree, it could be a grass allergy. I would request and allergy test. They can be pricey, but well worth it. Also, do you walk your dog on any public land, or even private land where pesticides could be used. Sometimes city's spray for different things. He could be reacting to that.
The cheapest way I think to test anything out is buy him booties. you would probably have to order them this time a year. He may not like them at first, but will get used to them. If it is an allergic reaction to either grass or a spray, the booties would help keep his skin away from it.
