We have a 2 year old german shepherd purebred. We had planned to possibly breed her, but lately we have noticed she whines alot through the day...also noticed she is not having bowel movements everyday like she use to. In the past 3 days she has not had many BM's. Could she possibly have a blockage in the colon? It was suggested to give her cod liver oil. Any help would be appreciated.
A single bowel movement a day is sufficient if you are feeding once daily and feeding a quality food.
The lower quality the food, the more bowel movements they have because there are no real nutrients for them to absorb. Cheap brands are mostly fillers that go in and pass on through. The better foods have more for the dog to digest and therefore one BM a day is fine.
Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. It is about learning to dance in the rain.
Try giving her a tsp of pure pumpkin in her food every day. She needs more fiber. This should make her bowels move. You can buy the pure pumpkin in a can. Hope this helps. If you need help shoot me an email at Lcox@farmerstel.com
